Getting a Transcript of your Tax Return

It is very common for a person to need a copy of their tax return but just can’t seem to find their last years copy. The first step you should try is contacting the tax preparer from the prior year to see if a copy is available for you. If that does not work you can always request a transcript of your return from the IRS. The transcript basically outlines what your return looked like so it will have all the numbers you need. The best way to get this transcript is to visit the IRS website to request a copy:

You can choose to get your transcript by mail or online. To get the transcript online you will need your personal information handy such as your social security number, date of birth, filing status, etc.

Please consult your tax advisor on all the above information.
